I am also a member of the Chamber of Commerce. My husband and I are transplants from Wisconsin (Go Packers!!!!) and know what it is like to move to a new area. New Bern, N.C., is popular with Northeasterners who want to stay closer to relatives up north and don’t want to go as far as Florida. It’s only two and a half hours from Raleigh. It has three seasons, but no real winter. As one resident put it, there’s “enough to remind us of the north, but not enough to make us unhappy.” The city has a 56-square-block downtown historic district on the waterfront.
